It is never too early to book your newborn photography session. When you reserve in advance, you are guaranteed availability before baby is 2 weeks of age. The best time to photograph your newborn is when they are between 6-14 days old (up to 3-4 weeks for lifestyle sessions), but sometimes life happens and that doesn’t always work out. Rest assured I can successfully capture the beauty of your new baby at any age.
Your spot will be held tentatively based on your due date, and the session itself will be scheduled once baby arrives. Posed newborn sessions are scheduled Monday-Friday mornings in our studio in Wesley Chapel just north of Tampa. You will probably be here through lunch time – I do have drinks available, and you are absolutely welcome to pack a lunch or pick something up on the way (or even have something delivered). Lifestyle sessions take place in your own home, and are more casual. These sessions focus more on family, emotion, and interaction, and do not include props or baby posing. Lifestyle sessions are better for those that want mostly images of the whole family, siblings, or want to include pets. Examples from both types of sessions are available to view in the portfolio.
While my calendar often fills up in advance, I may still be able to fit you in for a last minute session so it never hurts to inquire. When you book your session, you will be given an agreement that will go over what to expect, and a questionnaire so that you can customize the session. I do have a general workflow that I follow for posing each baby, but I am open to a few requests for poses, colors, and props. I normally use a few fun props in your session as well as pictures that focus on the timeless beauty of your baby. Baby will be photographed in a diaper and sometimes in bare skin. Everything needed for your session will be provided, you need only bring your diaper bag with diapers, wipes, formula or bottles of pre-pumped breast milk (optional to save time; you are also welcome to breastfeed), and a pacifier.
Your posed newborn session will probably last 2-4 hours, just depending on how much baby sleeps and how often we need to take feeding breaks. I always take my cue from baby, and will not force him or her to do any poses they are uncomfortable in. It is best to plan your session with an open mind, rather than a long must-have Pinterest list of inspiration. Often times your favorite images will be the ones you didn’t even plan for.
